Samantha Ruth | Naga Chaitanya: Chay-Sam split: News shocks Samantha’s father, reports claim actress refused Rs 200 cr alimony

It was a grim weekend for Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya fans as they witnessed the fairytale love story of their favourite Tollywood’s couple come to an end.

Fondly referred to as Chay-Sam, the couple took to their respective social media handles to confirm that their four-year-long relationship had come to an end. The soon-to-be-divorced couple have decided to stay friends, but pursue their own paths. They also urged the media and fans to respect their privacy to “move on.”

A news portal confirmed that the 34-year-old star’s father Joseph was shocked after the couple announced their break-up. “My mind has gone blank,” he said.

The reports also mentioned that Sr Prabhu tried to convince his daughter to rethink her decision, but now hopes things get better soon.

According to an
India Today report, the ‘Family Man 2’ had declined a Rs 200 crore alimony offered by former husband and the Akkineni family. The publication’s source confirmed that the actress has refused to take any money from her former in-laws, and wants to focus on her work.

The source also revealed that she is heartbroken after the announcement, but is putting up a brave front at work and being professional.

Chaitanya’s father and Telugu superstar Nagarjuna had also reacted to the announcement. “Whatever happened between Sam and Chay is very unfortunate… Sam and Chay are both dear to me. My family will always cherish the moments spent with Sam and she will always be dear to us,” his post read.

After the news broke, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut had made shocking revelations, claiming to know the reason for Chay-Sam’s separation.

In her Instagram Story, the 34-year-old actress blamed one of the “Bollywood superstars” for the Internet-favourite couple’s split.

Her penned note said that the divorce happened after Chaitanya became close to the ‘Bollywood divorce expert’.

She further claimed that the superstar in question has “ruined many women and children’s lives,” and is Chaitanya’s guiding light.

As a part of another Insta Story, she expressed her views about a rise in divorce cases in today’s time, and how men are to be blamed.

“Whenever divorce happens, fault is always the man. I may sound orthodox or too judgemental but this is how God has made man and woman, their nature and dynamics. Primitively scientifically, he is a hunter and she is a nurturer. Stop being kind to these brats who change women like clothes and then claim to be their best friends. Yes, out of hundred, yes, one woman can be wrong but that’s the ratio. Shame on these brats who get encouragement from the media and fans. They hail them and judge the woman. Divorce culture is growing like never before,” she wrote.

The fans had started speculating trouble in their marriage last month after Prabhu had dropped ‘Akkineni’ from her name on her Twitter account.

Chay-Sam met on the sets of Gautham Menon’s iconic 2010 Telugu film ‘Ye Maaya Chesave’, and started dating soon after. After dating for eight years, they got engaged in January 2017 and tied the knot in October the same year in Goa.

As performers, the couple had featured together in three more films – ‘Manam’, ‘Autonagar Surya’ and ‘Majili’.
